Headingley has long been a popular choice for student accommodation, with a great choice of bars, cafes, restaurants and shops around it vibrant high street. It has a trendy, village vibe with quick and easy access to Leeds city centre.

Leeds Beckett University campus is located in Headingley with on-site libraries and computer hubs where you can finish off essays and assignments whilst both the University of Leeds and Leeds Met University are located nearby.

Leisure and Sport

Whether you want to watch or participate, there is much to see and do. Headingley Carnegie Stadium is home to Yorkshire Cricket Club, Leeds Rhinos Rugby League and Leeds Carnegie Rugby Union. Becketts Park Campus is just up the road where several Leeds Metropolitan Univesity teams train and play, whether it is football, rugby, cricket or hockey.

For the more laid back, there are is a good selection of parks and woodland. Beckett Park is an attractive expanse of greenery with tennis courts and a kids’ play area. Woodhouse Moor is located at the Hyde Park end of Headingley. It is an attractive wooded park with tree lined walks.

Eating & Drinking

There is a huge choice of bars, cafes and restaurants in and around Headingley. From the iconic Salvo’s (Italian) and Sukho Thai through to trendy cafes like Moo’d. There is also an eclectic mix of traditional pubs such as the Original Oak and Woodies through to sophisticated modern bars like Trio and The Box.  Elsewhere there are numerous other bars and pubs and restaurants and cafes offering all sorts of international cuisine.

Entertainment

At either end of Headingley, there are two small cinemas showing arthouse films and major blockbusters side by side – Cottage Road Cinema and Hyde Park Picture House.

Shopping

In the centre of Headingley is the Arndale Shopping Centre, which has a small number of well known retailers such as Sainsbury’s, Wilkinsons, Superdrug, Greggs and KFC. There are also a range of small, independent boutiques.

Transport

Positioned along the A6660 Otley Road, Headingley is conveniently located for the city centre and accessing the ring road the Yorkshire Dales to the north.

Buses: There are a number of bus services that run regularly in to the city centre which take around 10 minutes.

Trains: Train stations at Burley Park and Headingley will bring you in to the city. They are on the Harrogate line with services to there, Knaresborough and York.

Road: Located on the A660 it easy to drive in to the city centre or even walk (about an hour) The main motorways of M62 and M1 are also easily accessed.

Air: Leeds Bradford Airport is about a 20 minute taxi ride, at a cost of between £15-£20.

Working

Due to the number of bars and restaurants and sports venues there is demand for part time student workers and there are a number of job agencies in Headingley who can actively search for these types of jobs.

Schools

Within a mile there are 10 primary schools above the national average score and between Headingley and Leeds there are a number of options for secondary education. The city college is less than two miles for further education while there is a campus for Leeds Beckett University in the suburb.
