Selling your Leeds home in winter

If you’re thinking about moving you might be wondering whether it’s better to wait until the spring, or to bite the bullet and put it on the market now.

While spring might be the traditional busy time for home buying, winter is still a perfectly good time to sell, and in fact, because it is quieter,  it actually has some benefits. As there are usually less properties on the market at this time of year, that means there is less competition, meaning there should be a higher proportion of viewers and less houses for them to choose from. It’s also worth noting that we usually find at this time of year, people viewing houses are those who are committed and serious about making an offer, which means less time wasted.

So what can you do to increase the appeal of your property at the time of year when houses can look gloomy?

The most important thing is light. Because we have such little daylight and dark weather, our houses inside can often look dull in winter, so when you have viewings it’s important to get as much natural light into the property, by fully opening all blinds and curtains  and moving anything that might block the windows.

Manufactured light is also really important to consider. If a room is particularly dark it’s worth putting the main ceiling light on with a high wattage to really brighten up the room.  However, we tend to associate winter with coziness, so having plenty of warm golden side lights on can create a cozy feel but also help to show off the size of the room.

Adding fairy lights outside can improve the look of a garden in winter, creating a magical wintery atmosphere at the time of the year when the garden is at its least fruitful.

At sbliving we think selling in winter is a great idea and there is no reason to hold off your listing just because of the time of year. We are here to help throughout the festive season if you need any advice on selling or buying a property.
